Manchester City and Chelsea meet again on Sunday just a fortnight after the two sides contested a Vitality Women’s FA Cup semi-final tie at The Academy Stadium.

On that occasion, Chelsea were the overwhelming 3-0 winners and Manchester City will be hoping to put on a much better showing when they face The Blues in this weekend’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture.

Ahead of the match, FAWSL Full-Time have been looking at the statistics surrounding the fixture provided by Opta. Here are four facts which relate to the Barclays FA Women’s Super League meeting between Manchester City and Chelsea.

Manchester City have a long winless run against Chelsea

Manchester City are winless in eight Barclays FA Women’s Super League matches against Chelsea (D6 L2). The South West Londoners are the only team that The Cityzens have gone more than three games without a win against in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League. Last season, Chelsea won 3-1 at Kingsmeadow while the return fixture was a 2-2 draw.

Chelsea have never won at The Academy Stadium in the WSL

Chelsea have never won at The Academy Stadium against Manchester City in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League (D3, L5). The Cityzens are the only team that they’ve never beaten away in the league, however, Chelsea are unbeaten in their last three fixtures at The Academy Stadium.

It’s a possession game

Manchester City (61.8%) and Chelsea (61.9%) are the two sides who have enjoyed the most possession in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League this season. Both sides have also had the most open play sequences (10+ passes) – Manchester City with 71 and Chelsea on 73.

Manchester City aiming to avoid unwanted record

Manchester City have lost their last two home Barclays FA Women’s Super League matches, as many as they’ve lost in their previous 57 fixtures on home soil (W44 D11 L2). The Cityzens have never lost three in a row at home in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League, a first Academy Stadium victory for Chelsea would see the hosts inherit that unwanted record.

The Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture between Manchester City and Chelsea is scheduled to kick-off at 3pm on Sunday afternoon. Tickets for the match can be purchased by clicking here.
