Jean-Luc Vasseur says that it will take time for Everton to begin to collect points from games against the top three or four sides in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.
The Blue Girls have a poor record against Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City with their recent results against those sides arguably being a factor in the departure of former boss Willie Kirk.
When speaking to FAWSL Full-Time ahead of Everton’s fixture against Manchester United this weekend, Vasseur said that it may take time for The Blue Girls to begin to record more favourable results against the big sides in his tenure.
“We are starting to find some things which will help us close the gap with these opponents,” Vasseur said. “Rome wasn’t built in a day and that is the situation now at Everton.
“The most important thing is to close the gap and I am very interested to see how we do in the next game to determine the gap between ourselves and Manchester United.”
Manchester United arrive at Walton Hall Park in fifth position in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League, five points ahead of Everton. While The Red Devils are in better form than The Blue Girls, Vasseur believes that there are weaknesses which Everton can look to exploit.
He said “They have strengths and weaknesses, we have identified a weakness and we will keep this a secret because this is a goal which I must work towards with my team.
“Manchester United have had a really good start but it is a long season and no two games are the same. We go into the Manchester United game with the ambition to show another phase of our game.”
