Manchester United will be hoping to pull themselves into the reckoning for winning their FA Women’s Continental League Cup group when they face rivals Manchester City at the Leigh Sports Village on Wednesday.

Marc Skinner’s side are playing catch up after needing penalties to see-off second tier side Durham in their first group game. Meanwhile, Manchester City are in a strong position to advance to the knockouts after winning their first two group games against Everton and Durham.

Manchester United head coach Marc Skinner will again be without midfielder Hayley Ladd who has cold and flu symptoms while Millie Turner and Jackie Groenen also remain sidelined. Martha Harris will not feature with the player having a minor foot injury. Skinner could look to rotate his squad with a big fixture against Arsenal coming up on Sunday.

Despite having struggled at home in league games this season, Manchester City have been victorious in both of their FA Women’s Continental League Cup fixtures at The Academy Stadium and any kind of winning result against Manchester United would see them move close to securing qualification. Head coach Gareth Taylor has confirmed that Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw will be available to play some minutes, however, Ellie Roebuck, Karen Bardsley, Khiara Keating, Steph Houghton, Esme Morgan, Lucy Bronze and Chloe Kelly all remain sidelined.

The FA Women’s Continental League Cup tie between Manchester United and Manchester City kicks-off at 7pm on Wednesday evening.
