Arsenal defender Lotte Wubben-Moy has dedicated her goal against HB Køge to injured teammate Leah Williamson.

The 22-year-old netted The Gunners’ second goal in their 3-0 victory over Danish club HB Køge in the UEFA Women’s Champions League at Meadow Park this evening.

Arsenal went into the game having announced the news that defender Williamson could miss the remainder of the year with a significant hamstring injury. After netting for The Gunners this evening, Williamson’s teammate Wubben-Moy dedicated her goal to the player.

“That was a goal for Leah,” Wubben-Moy said when speaking in the post-match press conference. “We will deeply miss her and that is her speciality isn’t it, (losing her marker) at the near post.

“If I can do anything, it is to tribute that goal to her.”

Wubben-Moy became the 11th different scorer for Arsenal in the UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage. Her goal was also her first in a European club competition and she said that it was a special moment.

“To score in a Champions League game is obviously a dream come true,” the defender said. “You dream of these kind of things growing up. To make it a reality today was cool and to help the team to a win is another important aspect of it.

“We know that goal difference could be another important aspect and we know that goal difference might be an important point in pushing to get out of the group.

“Everything matters, we look at the details and that showed today.”

Wubben-Moy will now be hoping to put in another strong performance for Arsenal when they face Manchester United in their latest Barclays FA Women’s Super League match this weekend.
