Leicester City have announced the news that manager Jonathan Morgan has left his position following a difficult start to the season.
Morgan leaves his role with The Foxes still searching for their first point in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League following their promotion in May. Assistant manager Michael Makoni and first team coach Holly Morgan have also departed.
In his time with Leicester City, Morgan has driven the club up the footballing pyramid. The East Midlands club are now a full-time operation at the top level of the English game, a world away from the team that he picked up in the Midlands Division 1 several years ago.
After leaving his position as manager, Morgan said “This Club has been part of mine and my family’s life for 12 years from when my sister Holly Morgan joined as a young player. To have taken Leicester from the Midlands Division 1 to a FAWSL club gives me nothing but pride. Earning promotion last season in the manner we did will always be a memory I can share with the fans and the city.
“This season has been disappointing, with injuries contributing to a difficult start, but we haven’t achieved the results we had hoped for.
“I wish the Club, the staff and the players my very best.”
Head of Women’s Football Development Emile Heskey has taken interim charge of Leicester City while the club undergo the necessary recruitment process for a new manager.
