Two in-form sides meet at the Select Car Leasing Stadium on Saturday as Reading host Barclays FA Women’s Super League champions Chelsea.
The Royals haven’t suffered a league defeat in more than two months while visitors Chelsea are on a seven-match winning streak in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.
Ahead of the match, FAWSL Full-Time have been looking at the statistics surrounding the fixture provided by Opta. Here are four facts which relate to the Barclays FA Women’s Super League meeting between Reading and Chelsea.
Reading await first win against Chelsea
Reading have never beaten Chelsea in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League, they have faced The Blues on 10 occasions with two matches being drawn and eight ending in defeat. Kelly Chambers’ side have lost the last five in a row by an aggregate score of 17-3. A positive result against Chelsea is well overdue.
Reading are Chelsea’s favourite opponents
Chelsea have faced Reading more often without losing in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League than any other side (P10 W8 D2). Meanwhile, Reading have only failed to beat Arsenal on more occasions than the South West Londoners (11).
Both teams have developed the winning habit
Reading have won three of their last four Barclays FA Women’s Super League matches, the other ending in a draw. That’s as many wins as in their previous 23 combined (W3 D9 L11). Chelsea have won their last seven Barclays FA Women’s Super League matches, their joint-longest winning run within a single season. The Blues have only had one longer winning run in the league, winning nine in a row across two seasons between August 2015 and May 2016.
Reading looking to record trio of home wins
Reading are looking to win three consecutive home matches in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League for the first time since a run of five between February and September 2018. That is a tough ask given the fact that Chelsea have lost just one of their last 43 away Barclays FA Women’s Super League matches (W29 D13) and have kept a clean sheet in nine of their last 12 on the road.
