Liverpool have confirmed that Sunday’s FA Women’s Championship fixture against Charlton Athletic has been postponed.
The pair were due to meet at Prenton Park in their final game of the year but the game has been cancelled due to Charlton Athletic’s outstanding Vitality Women’s FA Cup third round tie against FA Women’s National League Southern Premier club Gillingham.
Karen Hills’ side were set to take on Gillingham away from home yesterday but the game was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. Competition rules state that the game must be played on or by this coming Sunday meaning that the tie takes priority over Charlton Athletic’s trip to Liverpool in the FA Women’s Championship.
Liverpool confirmed the postponement of their final match of 2021 this lunchtime with all tickets purchased being valid for the rearranged fixture. It is understood that the game could be pencilled in for late February or March next year.
Despite Matt Beard’s side ending the calendar year with a free weekend, they will still remain top of the FA Women’s Championship table going into 2022. The Reds are currently four points clear of second-placed side London City Lionesses meaning that the capital club can only move to within a point of the summit this weekend.
