Arsenal have this evening confirmed that their Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture against Brighton & Hove Albion has been postponed due to the current COVID-19 situation.

The decision has been made following consultation with The Football Association. At this stage, it is not known whether one or both clubs have been affected by COVID-19. Brighton & Hove Albion manager Hope Powell did confirm on Friday that one player was in a precautionary period of self-isolation, although she added that the remainder of the squad were well.

A new date for the fixture will be agreed between the two clubs in due course and all pre-purchased tickets for the match will remain valid. Refunds are also available if required.

The postponement is the third in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League this weekend as a result of the current COVID-19 situation. Manchester City’s home fixture against Reading was called off on Friday with Gareth Taylor’s side battling an outbreak while Chelsea’s London derby clash against West Ham United has also been postponed. The Blues reported a couple of COVID-19 cases prior to travelling to Germany for their UEFA Women’s Champions League fixture against VfL Wolfsburg in midweek and further positives were recorded upon their return to the UK.

Just three Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixtures are now expected to go ahead on Sunday afternoon.
