COVID-19 has hit this weekend’s elite footballing schedule yet again with Sheffield United’s home fixture against Sunderland being postponed.
The Blades were set to face The Lady Black Cats at their traditional Bramall Lane home but the game has been called-off less than 24 hours prior to kick-off with Sunderland having recorded a number of positive COVID-19 cases.
Sunderland announced the news of their positive cases and the postponement of the game via a post on their official club Twitter account this evening.
ℹ️ Our fixture against Sheffield United Women has been postponed after several positive tests for Covid-19 were returned within the Lasses set-up.

The postponement now means that a maximum of two games will have taken place in the FA Women’s Championship this weekend. Coventry United drew 1-1 with Watford at the Butts Park Arena earlier today while Durham’s fixture against Blackburn Rovers at Maiden Castle is currently set to go ahead tomorrow.
In addition to the postponement of the Bramall Lane fixture, games at Crystal Palace and London City Lionesses have also been called-off this weekend. Liverpool’s home clash against Charlton Athletic was already postponed due to fixture congestion for the away side.
The season goes into the winter break after this weekend’s fixtures have been played.
