Chelsea captain Magda Eriksson has been named Sweden’s Women’s Defender of the Year for 2021.

The 28-year-old Stockholm-born centre-back has been a leading figure for both club and country during the last 12 months and her achievements have not gone unnoticed.

On the international stage, Eriksson has made 14 appearances for Sweden during the current calendar year in which she has scored two goals. The player was a key member of a Sweden side which won the Silver Medal at the Olympic Games in Japan in the summer. Peter Gerhardsson’s side were just a penalty shootout away from winning the Gold Medal.

For her club, Eriksson has captained Chelsea to a domestic quadruple with The Blues adding the Barclays FA Women’s Super League title, FA Women’s Continental League Cup and Vitality Women’s FA Cup to the FA Women’s Community Shield which they lifted in August 2020. The centre-back also helped guide Chelsea to a first-ever UEFA Women’s Champions League final where The Blues were defeated 4-0 by FC Barcelona in Gothenburg.

Eriksson was crowned the Swedish Women’s Defender of the Year at this evening’s Fotbollsåret 2021 awards. Chelsea legend Hedvig Lindahl also picked up an award this evening with the Atlético Madrid keeper being named Sweden’s Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year for 2021.
