Charlton Athletic have acquired the services of Chelsea youngster Jorja Fox on a loan arrangement for the remainder of the 2021/2022 campaign according to reports on The Addicks’ official website.
The young defender becomes Karen Hills’ first signing of the January transfer window as the Charlton Athletic boss looks to strengthen her squad ahead of a very competitive second half of the season.
The Addicks come into 2022 off the back of a four-game winning streak in all competitions and the introduction of Fox could help them maintain that momentum as they welcome Sheffield United to The Oakwood on Sunday.
Fox signed her first professional contract with Barclays FA Women’s Super League champions Chelsea last summer and went on to make her UEFA Women’s Champions League debut in November when she came on as a second half substitute in The Blues’ 7-0 win away at Servette FCCF. The talented youngster made her senior debut last season when she came off the bench as Chelsea defeated Aston Villa at The Banks’s Stadium before going on to make her first start for club in their 5-0 Vitality Women’s FA Cup fourth round victory over London City Lionesses.
This opportunity offers some vital playing minutes for the 18-year-old and given the strength-in-depth that Emma Hayes’ side currently boast, it was unlikely that Fox would see much playing time at her parent club. Given the competitive nature of the FA Women’s Championship this season, the move could not only be a vital test for Fox as she pits herself up against some seasoned professionals but it could also play a crucial part in her development for breaking into the Chelsea first team.
