Liverpool manager Matt Beard has made American forward Katie Stengel his first signing of the current transfer window according to reports on The Reds’ official website.
The 29-year-old former United States youth international moves to Liverpool on a free transfer after recently leaving Norwegian club Vålerenga.
Stengel is well-known to Liverpool boss Beard with the pair having previously worked together Stateside at the Boston Breakers. The player can also count Bayern Munich, Washington Spirit, Western Sydney Warriors, Newcastle Jets and Utah Royals amongst her impressive list of former clubs. Stengel is a former Frauen-Bundesliga winner while she arrives on Merseyside with UEFA Women’s Champions League playing experience on her CV.
After completing her move to Liverpool, Stengel said “It’s amazing to be here, everyone has been so welcoming and I can’t wait to get started.
“I always wanted to play in this league and when I got in contact with Matt it was just fate, I guess, and maybe a little bit of luck.
“I played under Matt at Boston Breakers. He was an incredible person and a great coach and I’m lucky to be playing for him again.”
Liverpool have handed Stengel the number 24 shirt and the player could make her debut for The Reds in their FA Women’s Championship fixture at Blackburn Rovers on Sunday should international clearance be obtained.
