Chelsea forward Sam Kerr has been named on the shortlist for The Best FIFA Women’s Player award for 2021.

The 28-year-old Australian international has made the final three-player shortlist for the award which includes FC Barcelona pair Jennifer Hermoso and Alexia Putellas.

Kerr enjoyed a fine 2021 in which she ended the 2020/2021 Barclays FA Women’s Super League season with the Golden Boot. She also netted a hat-trick as Chelsea defeated Bristol City 6-0 in the FA Women’s Continental League Cup final and a brace in Chelsea’s 3-0 Vitality Women’s FA Cup final victory over Arsenal at Wembley last month. Kerr ended the calendar year as the top scorer in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League with 23 goals and was second behind Chelsea teammate Fran Kirby in providing the most assists.

On the international stage, Kerr netted six goals for Australia at the Olympic Games in Japan last summer. She featured in 16 matches in all competitions for The Commonwealth Bank Matildas in 2021.
