Birmingham City and Arsenal will be eager to collect three points for very different reasons when the pair contest their latest Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture at St Andrew’s on Sunday.

The Blues are glued to the bottom of the table while Arsenal are flying high with a four-point advantage at the summit.

Ahead of the match, FAWSL Full-Time have analysed the statistics provided by Opta as we summarise Birmingham City’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture against Arsenal.

Birmingham City on a losing run against The Gunners

Birmingham City have lost each of their last five Barclays FA Women’s Super League matches against Arsenal. The Blues have failed to net in any of the last four meetings while The Gunners have scored 13 goals in their five-game winning sequence. With one side bottom of the league and the other top, there has never been a bigger mis-match of the two teams.

Birmingham City are one of Arsenal’s favourite opponents

Arsenal have recorded 13 victories over Birmingham City in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League. Only Everton and Liverpool have suffered more defeats to The Gunners over the course of the last decade.

Arsenal are not the only London club who Birmingham City have struggled against. Including last season’s forfeited fixture at Tottenham Hotspur, the Blues haven’t won any of their last 16 Barclays FA Women’s Super League matches against London opposition (D3 L13) with their last victory being a home success against West Ham United in November 2018.

Headers could be a source of goals

Arsenal have scored more headed goals (seven) than any other side in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League so far this season. Sunday’s opponents Birmingham City have conceded the greatest number of headed goals so far this season with the Blues being breached seven times by headers.

New Year cheer has been in short supply on the blue side of the Second City

Birmingham City have won just two of their previous 11 Barclays FA Women’s Super League games to kick-off a calendar year (D6 L3). The prospects of a win in the first game of 2022 seem unlikely given the Blues’ opponents and the fact that the Barclays FA Women’s Super League’s bottom club have led for just 11 minutes all season.

The Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture between Birmingham City and Arsenal kicks-off at 2pm on Sunday afternoon. Tickets can be purchased on the day of the game from the ticket office or are available online by clicking here.
