Brighton & Hove Albion manager Hope Powell believes that her side’s performance at Arsenal this evening was worthy of a point.
The Seagulls took a shock first half lead through Emma Koivisto’s looping header but Arsenal fought back to win the game in the second half thanks to goals from Vivianne Miedema and Beth Mead.
When speaking in the post-match press conference, Powell said that she felt that her side’s performance merited a share of the spoils.
“I was really pleased with the way that we performed, the way that we conducted ourselves and the battle and the spirit,” Powell said. “I was pleased with the performance, we scored, it was just a disappointing result.
“I feel like a point would have been a fair result but they are a quality side so it’s tough.”
After holding Chelsea to a goalless draw at the weekend, Brighton & Hove Albion carried their level of performance into the Arsenal game this evening and the competitiveness of her side was something which pleased Powell.
She said “It just proves that we can compete. We won’t always have the ball against a top side but I thought we did some things really well today, that competitiveness, that fight, that spirit which sometimes is easier when you are not expected to win. Perhaps they play with a little bit more freedom and fun. If we can maintain that desire and passion leading into the next part of the season, I can only be pleased.
“Generally, I’m pleased with the performance but not so with the result.”
Brighton & Hove Albion are back in action on Sunday when they host Reading in the fourth round of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup.
