Chelsea have completed the signing of teenage goalkeeper Poppy Soper on a dual-registration basis from Plymouth Argyle according to reports on The Blues’ official website.

The 19-year-old keeper is a full Welsh international, although she is yet to make her senior debut for The Red Dragons.

Soper has been a regular in Gemma Grainger’s Welsh squad with the player being an unused substitute for the nation’s six FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023 qualifying matches to date.

With Chelsea having recently lost veteran goalkeeper Carly Telford to the American National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), the club have today announced the dual-registration signing of Plymouth Argyle youngster Soper. The player will train full-time with The Blues and will be available for selection for both clubs when required.

Speaking to Plymouth Argyle’s official media team after securing her move to Chelsea, Soper said “It’s still a bit of a shock. I’ve known for a couple of weeks now but it has not really set in properly yet.

“The club informed me that Chelsea wanted to sign me on dual registration terms and three days later,  I made the move down and I got introduced to the first team, got training. It has happened really fast but it’s been incredible.”

Soper has been playing FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division football for Plymouth Argyle this season, helping the club put up a strong battle against relegation. She will now be hoping to kick on in the elite game at Chelsea.
