Reading manager Kelly Chambers says that this afternoon’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture at Brighton & Hove Albion will be completely different to when the two sides contested a Vitality Women’s FA Cup fourth round tie two weeks’ ago.

The Royals came out on top in that game. Chambers’ side established a two-goal lead only for Brighton & Hove Albion to come back and level matters. Youngster Tia Primmer then came off the bench to win the game for Reading with a goal seven minutes from time.

When speaking in her pre-match press conference, Chambers said that few comparisons can be made between that Vitality Women’s FA Cup win and this afternoon’s meeting at The People’s Pension Stadium.

“It is a game that we want to win to continue our fabulous run,” Chambers said. “I think that it’ll be completely different from the FA Cup game purely because they made a lot of changes to the team that have been playing in the league games.

“We are expecting a different game but we have fantastic momentum at the minute, we’re are on a fantastic run and we want to finish strongly going into the international break.”

Reading have a near-perfect record against Brighton & Hove Albion with The Seagulls having never beaten The Royals in the top flight. Chambers struggled to point out exactly why Reading have had so much success against the Sussex club.

She said “I don’t know, I think that’d be something more in Brighton’s court. For us, it is a case that we prepare for everything the same in terms of analysing them and what they do – where are their strengths and where are their weaknesses where we feel we can exploit them? We do that for every team.

“For Brighton, it is a case that we manage to really put in a performance for those games and get the result. It is a strange one, we haven’t dropped many points against them and touch wood, that’ll continue this weekend. We don’t prepare any different for any game so we will be going into this game as prepared as normal.”

The Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture between Brighton & Hove Albion and Reading kicks-off at 2pm.
