England have battled out a goalless draw with Spain in their second match at the Arnold Clark Cup.

Both sides recorded 1-1 draws in their opening matches at the tournament and there was little to separate the pair in their latest outing at Norwich City’s Carrow Road this afternoon.

The first half was starved of goalscoring opportunities with neither goalkeeper being severely tested. Jill Scott scuffed an early effort wide for the hosts before a mix up between Jess Carter and Hannah Hampton presented a chance for Aitana Bonmatí to shoot at the other end but she failed to chip the ball into an unguarded net.

The second half was much more action-packed, although neither side could make the breakthrough. Half-time substitute Lauren Hemp almost made an instant impact but she could only fire her shot against the post before Jordan Nobbs disappointingly drilled an effort wide when she arguably should have scored.

Spain then had a great chance of their own when a cross deceived Rachel Daly and found Lucía García at the back post but she failed to test Hampton.

Athenea Del Castillo had two chances to win the game late on for Spain but she first found the side-netting before her second effort was gathered by Hampton as the game ended goalless.

England end their Arnold Clark Cup campaign against Germany in Wolverhampton on Wednesday while Spain will face Canada.
