Everton’s interim manager Chris Roberts says that he is pleased with the form of forward Anna Anvegård and he has backed the player to increase her goal contribution for the club.

Anvegård joined the club from Swedish side FC Rosengård in the summer. She has scored five goals in 15 appearances in all competitions for Everton so far this season.

The Swede netted her fifth goal of the season as Everton defeated Charlton Athletic 2-0 in a Vitality Women’s FA Cup fifth round tie at The Oakwood on Sunday. When speaking to FAWSL Full-Time in an Everton press conference, interim boss Roberts said that he is pleased with what he has seen from Anvegård and he has backed her to improve her goalscoring record.

“I’ve been very pleased,” Roberts said. “She has been very consistent, her attitude and work-rate are exceptional for a forward, she can run the line very well and run in-behind and she is always first in the box which is a necessity for a number nine.

“That return is good and I think it will continue to improve as we find consistency in the way that we play in attack. I am hoping that her goal tally will improve as the season goes on.

“She has settled well into England, it is a very different league to what she has been used to. Hopefully, that improvement will continue and her goal return will improve as the season goes on.”

Three of Anvegård’s five goals for Everton have come in 2022 and Roberts believes that things are starting to click for the forward.

He said “Yeah definitely. I feel like since I’ve taken over as interim manager, I’m seeing that improvement in the squad every day in training and in every game. Hopefully, we can start turning the positive play into chances and turn the chances into goals, not just with Anna but with all of our attacking players. We want players who are not in the front-line to also chip in with goals as well like we saw with Kenza (Dali) at the weekend.

“I am hoping that with the consistency in the way that we are playing and through the messages and process that we are following that we will start scoring more goals and we will have more players on the scoresheet.”

Everton are next in action on Wednesday evening when they travel to Aston Villa in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.
