Everton’s interim manager Chris Roberts has called on his side to ‘handle the elements’ better against Aston Villa when The Blue Girls travel to The Banks’s Stadium this evening.
The two sides met in the reverse fixture a little over a fortnight ago, Aston Villa won that game 2-0 despite Everton having created more chances and having had more possession.
When speaking in the pre-match press conference ahead of Everton’s latest meeting with Aston Villa, Roberts said that managing moments of the game better will be key this time around.
“On that specific day, we had to handle the elements better,” Roberts said when speaking to FAWSL Full-Time about his side’s recent defeat to Aston Villa. “We have to handle certain moments and situations in the game better.
“I don’t think it was necessarily a bad performance from start to finish, we had chances in the game but the goals that we conceded were massively avoidable.
“There are a lot of things that we have learnt from that game and we will take them into the next game. We are confident, we know it will be tough but we will be doing everything we can to get the win and the three points.”
Everton go into the match having won five of their last eight matches in all competitions on the road. Roberts couldn’t identify any specific reason for the good away form but he is hoping to see the home form benefit in the long run.
He said “From my perspective, nothing feels any different in terms of preparation or anything like that when we are at home or away from home. I can’t put my finger on why we have a good record away from home and not at home. Maybe by the end of the season, that will even out and we will pick up more victories at home.
“That stat does give us confidence going into the game, that we are a team who performs well on the road so long may that continue.”
Everton’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture at Aston Villa kicks-off at 7pm.
