This evening’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture between Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur has been postponed as a result of positive COVID-19 cases being recorded in the away side’s camp.

Both sides confirmed the postponement a short while ago, the fixture has now been called off for the second time this season.

A statement released by Tottenham Hotspur confirming the postponement read:

Tottenham Hotspur Women can confirm that our Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture at Chelsea this evening has been postponed.

The decision was agreed between the Club and the FA after a number of positive tests for Covid-19 were returned within the squad.

A new date will be announced in due course and all existing tickets purchased for the match will remain valid.

The health and safety of both sets of players and staff remains paramount.

We would like to apologise to everyone at Chelsea and to both their supporters and ours for any inconvenience caused.

Chelsea will be particularly disappointed to see the game postponed with The Blues now having lost the opportunity to leapfrog Arsenal into pole position in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League table for the first time this season. The top two are both next set to be in league action at the weekend, however, it should be noted that Arsenal are scheduled to face Tottenham Hotspur in a North London derby at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Chelsea travel to the East Midlands to face Leicester City.

A rearranged date for the fixture between Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur will be agreed between the two clubs in due course.
