London City Lionesses head coach Melissa Phillips says that her side still have plenty to play for this season despite promotion now being off the agenda.

The Pride have four games remaining this season and there is still plenty to be decided with just four points currently separating third position and eighth in the FA Women’s Championship table.

When speaking to FAWSL Full-Time ahead of this weekend’s fixture against Lewes, London City Lionesses boss Phillips said that her side remain focused on the task in hand and that they want to bounce back from two consecutive defeats.

“We are always thinking about ways to improve and we are always thinking about years ahead but we are staying focused on the present and the current moment right now,” Phillips said. “There is still a task in hand in the remaining four games for us.

“In our season so far, we have always bounced back quite quickly (from defeats) and we have yet to go through a tough patch of games as we are right now, there are some growing pains involved in that. We are a very young squad, we have been sat in a very good place and have achieved some fantastic results so far.  We know that we are capable, it is just about finding that momentum, creating it ourselves, working a little bit harder, demanding a little higher standards of ourselves in various areas and continuing to push on through the growing pains.”

Three of London City Lionesses’ last four games are on home soil which is something that pleases Phillips with The Pride having enjoyed good form at Princes Park this season.

She said “The sunshine is certainly helping the surface here at Princes Park. We would love to have a good home crowd turn out for our remaining three home matches.

“We have had decent form and we have been difficult to play against at Princes Park but we know that is a matter of how we show up on the day, how we execute, how we perform and make sure that we put ourselves in positions to win the game and to create more chances. We have got to take a good, hard look at ourselves out of possession as well where we can be a bit prettier, where we can be a bit better in one v one and where we can make better decisions all round.”

London City Lionesses’ latest FA Women’s Championship fixture against Lewes kicks-off at 4.30pm on Sunday.
