Aston Villa head coach Carla Ward says that the club’s strikers have had an excellent week on the training pitch ahead of tomorrow’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture against Reading.

The Villans are looking to end a three-game sequence without scoring while they will also be aiming to collect points on home soil for the first time since the opening day of the season.

When speaking to FAWSL Full-Time ahead of the match, Aston Villa boss Ward said that she is making some slight adjustments to her side’s attack whilst commenting that her forward players have impressed in training this week.

“We’ve tweaked a couple of things, changed a couple of personnel and we will try to be a little bit more creative in certain areas,” Ward said.

“The forwards have had a really good week this week, they’ve got one more session and hopefully, they can finish lively. Our forward players have looked sharp all week and hopefully, that can be replicated on Saturday.”

Aston Villa’s latest opponents Reading have enjoyed a solid season under the guidance of manager Kelly Chambers and Ward is expecting another tough test for her side this weekend.

She said “I think that Kelly has done an unbelievable job over the years, she really has. They’re a great side, a well-organised side and one of the best pressing teams in the division so it’s going to be a tough afternoon.

“They play in a way, particularly with that diamond, that has managed to hurt so many teams but it is something that we will be absolutely ready for.”

Aston Villa’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture against Reading takes place at The Banks’s Stadium on Saturday afternoon and is scheduled to kick-off at 12.30pm. Card only turnstiles will be in operation for fans wishing to pay on the day.
