Arsenal head coach Jonas Eidevall says that his side must look to the future following their midweek UEFA Women’s Champions League exit at the hands of German club VfL Wolfsburg.

The Gunners lost 2-0 on the night and 3-1 on aggregate to the twice-crowned former European champions and they must now pick themselves up and finish the domestic season successfully.

Arsenal take on Leicester City at the King Power Stadium this afternoon and when speaking ahead of that match, Eidevall said that his side must focus on the future and forget their midweek defeat.

“From a physical and mental perspective, we need to look to the future,” Eidevall said. “You have to let go of things that you can’t change now and prepare for a very tough game against Leicester. The way that they play will present some different challenges for us.”

Leicester City suffered a heavy 9-0 home defeat to reigning Barclays FA Women’s Super League champions Chelsea at the King Power Stadium last time out and Eidevall expects them to defend in a more cautious and compact manner this weekend.

He said “I think if you lose 9-0 because you didn’t do your very best, then of course. you are going to want to be better next time. I think all the teams in the WSL go out to do their very best. Obviously, they will want to improve but every team wants to do that. I guess they might try to prioritise their defence and try not to concede early.

“I think they will be more cautious (with their high defensive line) than they were at Meadow Park. They didn’t concede goals against Chelsea from those situations where they were high up the pitch. I think their line will be a little lower.”

Arsenal’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture at Leicester City kicks-off at 12.30pm.
