Manchester United assistant head coach Martin Ho has insisted that the team remain focused on their next game, not the battle for third place with Manchester City.

The Red Devils lead The Cityzens by three points in the race for third place in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League but Gareth Taylor’s side have a game in-hand.

Ahead of Sunday evening’s fixture at Aston Villa, Manchester United assistant head coach Ho said that the focus remains only on the next game.

“We take every game as it comes,” Ho said. “Our focus isn’t on Manchester City, our focus is on what we do and I think that’s when we deliver to our best and that’s when we perform to our best. Everybody else on the outside is going to talk about it (the battle for third), I get constant messages about it on my social media and copied into every message about it.

“Our focus as a group is that we take each game as it comes and we focus on what we need to do as a group because as soon as you start to take your focus elsewhere, that’s where you start to see your lapses of concentration. We focus on what we have got ahead of us which is Aston Villa in the next game, we work towards that then we work beyond that after this weekend.”

Manchester United registered 20 shots on goal in their last match against Brighton & Hove Albion but won just 1-0. Ho said that it was pleasing to create so many opportunities and that the team are continuing to work to be more ruthless in the next game.

He said “We do very well to create the opportunities and open teams up. We dominated the ball in that game and we have in numerous games. Is there an element where we would like to be more ruthless? Of course there is, we want to be ruthless in and around the box but you have to give credit to Brighton, they defended really well in spells, made it hard to break them down and put nine and 10 behind the ball.

“We want to be ruthless in and around the box, we continue to work at that. It is something that we do really well in training but we want to be more ruthless in the box going into Aston Villa at the weekend.”

Manchester United’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture at Aston Villa kicks-off at 6pm on Sunday evening.
