Everton forward Claire Emslie will leave the club upon the expiry of her contract this summer according to reports on The Blue Girls’ official website.

The 28-year-old Scotland international joined Everton on loan from Orlando Pride in 2020 before later sealing a permanent move to the Merseyside club.

Emslie has made 37 appearances for Everton in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League while she was a Vitality Women’s FA Cup runner-up with the club in 2019/2020, although injury ruled her out of the final. The forward made her final appearance for The Blue Girls as a second half substitute in their 1-1 draw at Brighton & Hove Albion this afternoon.

The player’s next career move is not yet known, however, Emslie was named by National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) expansion team Angel City in the 2022 NWSL Expansion Draft and a return to the United States may be a possibility. Emslie’s previous experience Stateside was brief with the player being loaned from Orlando Pride to Melbourne City before being sent out to Everton.

New manager Brian Sørensen will arrive at Everton in the summer and it seems likely that another forward may top his summer shopping list. In addition to Emslie’s scheduled departure, the club recently allowed Valérie Gauvin to join North Carolina Courage.
