Former Birmingham City head coach Scott Booth has been appointed the new first team manager of FA Women’s Championship club Lewes.

The Rookettes had been without a permanent manager since Simon Parker left the club by mutual consent last October. Craig Gill has been overseeing first team matters on an interim basis.

Lewes have been undergoing an extensive recruitment process for a new permanent first team manager and it has today been revealed that the club have appointed former Birmingham City boss Booth on a two-year deal. The 50-year-old arrives at The Dripping Pan with six Scottish Women’s Premier League titles under his belt along with two Scottish Women’s FA Cups and one Scottish League Cup from his time with former club Glasgow City. He also guided the club to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Women’s Champions League during his time at Petershill Park.

After signing on at The Dripping Pan, Booth said “I’m absolutely delighted to take up the role of women’s first team manager at Lewes FC. It’s a fantastic club run by extremely professional and committed people. This was a key aspect for me in joining Lewes. The board, staff, supporters and local community are all incredibly invested in the team. It was clear to me throughout the interview process that the club’s values are aligned with my own. I’m really looking forward to meeting the players and staff. We’ll work together in a positive environment to achieve our goals.”

Booth was most-recently appointed Birmingham City head coach last summer. He brought in virtually a brand new squad on a small playing budget and they took time to gel. He was sacked by the club in November with Birmingham City bottom of the Barclays FA Women’s Super League table.

Latest club Lewes have long term ambitions of reaching the promised land of the Barclays FA Women’s Super League. The club finished the 2021/2022 campaign in eighth position in the FA Women’s Championship table.
