Chelsea forward Beth England says that yesterday’s Vitality Women’s FA Cup final victory over Manchester City at Wembley was a reward for the collective effort at the club this season.
The Blues defeated Manchester City 3-2 after extra-time, the two sides battled out a 2-2 draw in 90 minutes at the national stadium.
It has been a tough season for Chelsea with the club battling injuries, illnesses and Government sanctions and after lifting the Vitality Women’s FA Cup, forward England paid tribute to everyone who has contributed to The Blues’ success this year.
“I’m just proud of every single person – players, staff, all of the external people that are in the background that don’t always get a mention,” England said when speaking in a media huddle. “It’s not just us that do it on the pitch, it’s everyone else coming together – the medical team have been phenomenal getting people back ready for games.
“Considering the season that we’ve had with all of the sanctions, I am just proud that this club have gone and done what they have done.”
England and Chelsea have lifted the Vitality Women’s FA Cup twice in less than six months. England went on to say that the experience of lifting the trophy will always be special.
She said “It never gets old climbing up those stairs, celebrating and cheering with the fans. They’re always our 12th man and I think that without them, we wouldn’t be where we are.
“Playing on such a momentous pitch is just a dream and I feel very privileged to be in this position now.”
Chelsea now go into the summer break with the squad likely to report back for pre-season training in July depending upon individual international commitments.
