England international midfielder Georgia Stanway has confirmed that she is leaving Manchester City after more than seven years with the club.
It was widely reported yesterday that the 23-year-old will join German club Bayern Munich and that move seems highly likely with Stanway confirming her Manchester City exit this morning.
In a post on her personal Twitter account, Stanway said “I joined Manchester City with a dream of becoming a professional footballer. I have been grateful to call it my home for the last seven years.
“Today, I leave as the club’s leading top scorer with over 150 appearances and seven domestic trophies.
“A huge thank you to all the staff and teammates that have supported me on my journey and to the fans who have given me unconditional support throughout. I have made memories and friends for a lifetime.
“I’ll be back as a fan if not a player!”
After starting out at Blackburn Rovers, Stanway joined Manchester City in 2015. She went on to win the domestic treble with the club while she has since lifted both the FA Women’s Continental League Cup and Vitality Women’s FA Cup on two further occasions. The player made her final Manchester City appearance as the club were defeated 3-2 after extra-time by Chelsea in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup final at Wembley on Sunday.
Bayern Munich are expected to announce the signing of Stanway in the coming days.
