Young Manchester United defender Poppy Lawson has completed a move to Scottish Women’s Premier League (SWPL) club Hibernian.
Hibs confirmed the news of their latest summer signing via an update on their official club website this afternoon. The youngster has signed a two-year deal north of the border.
Lawson has captained Manchester United’s WSL Academy League side and she was a domestic double winner with the club this season. The teenager has not been given any playing opportunities with the senior side during her time with The Red Devils but she will now experience Scottish Women’s Premier League (SWPL) football with new club Hibs.
After completing the move to Leith, Lawson said “To sign my first professional contract with a club like Hibs is really exciting.
“Dean (Gibson) and his staff are putting everything in place for us to compete for titles and silverware and I can’t wait to join the Hibernian family!”
Lawson joins a Hibs side who could only manage a fourth-place finish in this year’s Scottish Women’s Premier League (SWPL). The Hibees will be looking to end a 16-year wait for a league title next season while it has been three years since the club last tasted domestic cup success.
Manager Gibson has made a number of positive new additions so far this summer and Hibs will be confident of challenging strongly for silverware in 2022/2023.
