Everton have announced the news that they have taken up a one-year option on defender Megan Finnigan’s contract, keeping her at Walton Hall Park until next summer.
The Blue Girls announced the news this afternoon via a post on the club’s official Twitter account.
The 24-year-old is now Everton’s longest-serving player with Finnigan having been on the club’s books since the age of nine. The defender successfully came through the club’s academy system and went on to make her senior debut for the Merseysiders during the 2015 FA Women’s Super League 2 season.
Since making her Everton debut, Finnigan has gone on to clock up well over 100 league appearances for the club. She was a member of the Everton team which won the FA Women’s Super League 2 Spring Series in 2017 while she played 120 minutes for The Blue Girls as they ended the 2019/2020 Vitality Women’s FA Cup final as runners-up to Manchester City.
This season has seen Finnigan make 22 appearances for Everton in all competitions. The player could now be an important piece of the jigsaw for new manager Brian Sørensen after seeing her contract extended by a further year.
Finnigan’s new deal is welcome news for Everton who have parted company with other long-serving players Simone Magill and Danielle Turner this summer.
