Midfielder Josie Longhurst has become Barclays Women’s Championship club Lewes’ first signing of the summer transfer window.

The 20-year-old Welsh international midfielder is understood to be joining the Sussex club on a permanent deal after leaving Barclays Women’s Super League club Brighton & Hove Albion.

Longhurst initially joined The Rookettes on a dual-registration basis in the second half of this season. The player went on to make eight appearances for Lewes in the Barclays Women’s Championship. Longhurst will now have the opportunity to kick-on at The Dripping Pan after becoming new Lewes boss Scott Booth’s first signing of the summer transfer window.

After signing on at Lewes, Longhurst said “I am really excited to be signing for Lewes this season.

“After being here for the second half of last year, I instantly felt at home.

“The club has a great vision for the future and after speaking with Scott (Booth) and Kelly (Lindsey) and hearing their ambitions for this season, I am really looking forward to getting started!”

Longhurst joins Lewes ahead of their fifth season in the Barclays Women’s Championship. The Rookettes will be keen to push on up the table next season after recording an eighth-place finish in 2021/2022.
