Defender Lucy Bronze has returned to the England squad after spending the last few days recovering from short term illness.

The Football Association informed FAWSL Full-Time of the news this evening.

Full details of Bronze’s recent illness have not been disclosed, however, the player has not been suffering with COVID-19 with a negative test having been recorded earlier this week.

Bronze’s illness saw her miss England’s 4-0 victory over Switzerland in Zürich last night. Following a goalless opening 45 minutes, the Lionesses upped their game in the second half and they recorded a comprehensive victory thanks to goals from Alessia Russo, Georgia Stanway, Beth England and Jill Scott.

England now turn their attentions towards the start of the UEFA Women’s EURO next week. Sarina Wiegman’s side take on Austria in the tournament’s opening match in front of a sell-out crowd at Old Trafford in Manchester. The Lionesses will also face Norway and neighbours Northern Ireland in the group stage.

With Bronze back in the squad, England head coach Wiegman is believed to have a fully-fit group. Forward Ellen White was not used in Zürich last night but the player is expected to be in contention for a start on Wednesday after recently recovering from COVID-19.
