Everton goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan has signed a new one-year contract extension with the club according to reports on The Blue Girls’ official website.
The 26-year-old Republic of Ireland international’s new deal on Merseyside is good news for Everton with first choice keeper Sandy MacIver having left the club to join Manchester City yesterday.
Brosnan joined Everton on a free transfer from Barclays Women’s Super League rivals West Ham United last summer. The keeper has had to bide her time for minutes but she will be hoping for more action at Everton this season with MacIver now gone.
After extending her stay on Merseyside, Brosnan said “I’m very excited to spend another year with this club.
“Having played in England for three years with two different clubs, I feel I have a good understanding of this league and the quality of teams that you’re up against.
“The level of opposition, the standards in training, the intensity of matches – having experienced that will be good for myself heading into the new campaign and hopefully I can use that to my advantage.”
Brosnan will now await news of who will rival her for the number one jersey with Everton set to enter the transfer market for another goalkeeper this summer.
