Former Oxford United forward Beth Lumsden has completed a move to Southampton according to reports on The Saints’ official club website.

The 22-year-old arrives on the South Coast with second tier playing experience following spells with Charlton Athletic and Millwall Lionesses earlier in her career.

Lumsden spent one season with latest club Oxford United, scoring 27 goals in just 33 games. The player could undoubtedly play elite football again and she will get that opportunity with Southampton.

After securing the services of the striker, Southampton boss Marieanne Spacey-Cale said “Beth is going to bring a different element coming forwards. She’s a striker who can play in behind, she can come and receive to feet. She’s direct and she likes to take players on. She’s got all of the elements of a striker that you want and that will give us a different dimension going forward. She’s really excited to be here.”

Lumsden becomes Saints boss Spacey-Cale’s second signing of the summer transfer window. Southampton started their summer recruitment yesterday with the addition of defender Paige Peake from former FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division title rivals Ipswich Town. Spacey-Cale looks to be using her knowledge of the third tier to great effect this summer.
