London City Lionesses have completed the signing of midfielder Lucy Shepherd from National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) club Washington Spirit.

The Pride informed FAWSL Full-Time of the news via a club update this evening. The 23-year-old moves to Princes Park following a spell combining football with her studies in the United States.

Shepherd was on Aston Villa’s books in her youth, although she never featured for The Villans at senior level. On the international stage, the midfielder has represented England up to and including Under-19 level. Shepherd will be keen to show her qualities to the English game once again after sealing her move to Barclays Women’s Championship title hopefuls London City Lionesses.

After joining The Pride, Shepherd said “It feels great to have finally signed for the club and I can’t wait to get out on the pitch.

“This is a great club with really good ambitions for the season, I hope I can help the club achieve them.

“With this season, it’s all going to be about taking one game at a time and building that momentum to hopefully take us to a title.”

Shepherd becomes London City Lionesses head coach Melissa Phillips’ fourth signing of the summer transfer window.
