Former Everton forward Claire Emslie has signed for National Women’s Soccer League club Angel City according to reports on the American club’s official website.
A return to the United States always seemed likely with Angel City having picked the Scottish international in the 2022 NWSL Expansion Draft and the club have now officially confirmed the signing.
Emslie spent two seasons with former club Everton. She initially joined the Merseysiders on loan from Orlando Pride and the deal was later made permanent. Emslie made 37 appearances for Everton in the Barclays Women’s Super League in which she scored five goals. She was a Vitality Women’s FA Cup runner-up with The Blue Girls in 2020.
After completing her move to Angel City, Emslie said “I’m really excited to be in Los Angeles and part of Angel City. I have been looking forward to it for a long time. The team has already been so welcoming and I can’t wait to get onto the field for the rest of the season.”
Emslie’s previous spell in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) with Orlando Pride lasted less than a season. The Scot joined The Pride in summer 2019 but her progress was halted as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic. The player will now be looking to make her mark on the league in an Angel City shirt.
