Australian international goalkeeper Lydia Williams has left Barclays Women’s Super League club Arsenal at the end of her contract.

The Gunners confirmed the news this morning via a post on their official club website. The player has been linked with a move to French club Paris Saint-Germain in recent days.

Williams has spent the last two seasons with Arsenal after joining the club from W-League side Melbourne City. The keeper has made 11 Barclays Women’s Super League appearances for The Gunners, she has largely played the role of understudy to Manuela Zinsberger.

Arsenal are understood to have held contract talks with Williams this summer but the decision has been made to allow the player to move on.

In total, five players have now left Arsenal during the close season. Lisa Evans and Viktoria Schnaderbeck have moved on, as have youngsters Halle Houssein and Hermoine Cull. United States international Tobin Heath left Arsenal prior to the end of the campaign after sustaining a season-ending injury while Anna Patten has gone out on loan for 2022/2023.

Arsenal boss Jonas Eidevall is yet to make any new signings of his own. Expect some deals to be done with the North Londoners aiming to challenge for the Barclays Women’s Super League title again this year.
