England boss Sarina Wiegman says that the team haven’t won anything yet after the Lionesses thumped Norway 8-0 in Brighton last night.

On a special night for the England team, the Lionesses raced into a 6-0 first half lead before adding two further goals in the second half. England have now qualified for the quarter-finals as group winners with a game to play.

Speaking in the post-match press conference, England boss Wiegman was pleased with the performance but she again insisted that nothing has been won yet with three knockout wins still needed.

“We have played two games now, we are trying to play our best game and today we did,” Wiegman said. “It’s three points – if you win 1-0 or 8-0, it doesn’t make a difference because we haven’t won anything yet.

“It was a great win. The way we played (impressed me) and we kept playing that way in the second half when we were already up 6-0. We kept the ball moving, we kept going with the task, we changed our shape but adapted to that too. I am just really pleased with the whole team and happy to go to the next round.”

England’s rivals will have been impressed with the Lionesses’ performance at the Amex Stadium but Wiegman was unsure whether her team will be feared by others just yet.

She said “We have seen some big scores and some very good matches so I don’t know. I have seen a couple of teams who can play with a high tempo with lots of power.

“Yes, they will be impressed with this performance but we have seen other teams that have done really well too. We can expect some more really good games coming soon.”

England complete the group stage with a dead rubber game against Northern Ireland in Southampton on Friday.
