Everton midfielder Hanna Bennison says that it is an amazing feeling to score her first senior international goal for the Swedish national team.

The 19-year-old netted the winner as the Swedes eventually defeated Switzerland 2-1 at Bramall Lane in Sheffield this evening.

Fridolina Rolfö’s opener was quickly cancelled out by Ramona Bachmann’s curling strike for Switzerland. The Swedes huffed and puffed as they chased a winner with Bennison coming off the bench to fire home the decisive goal from 20 yards.

When speaking to FAWSL Full-Time after the match, Bennison said that it was a special feeling to score for her country at senior level.

“It’s just an amazing feeling to score my first senior goal,” she said. “We really needed the win so it is just amazing to score the winning goal.”

Until Bennison’s impressive strike, Sweden failed to display their true attacking qualities as they struggled to make the breakthrough. The player said that the goal gave the team new-found energy.

She added “I think that the team took a lot of energy from the goal and of course, we knew we needed the win badly.

“Finding the winning goal was a big moment for the team. We need to focus on the next game now and getting another win.”

Sweden complete the UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 group stage with a fixture against Portugal in Leigh on Sunday.
