England head coach Sarina Wiegman will lead out the team for their UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 quarter-final tie against Spain at the Amex Stadium in Brighton this evening.

Wiegman tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday ahead of the Lionesses’ final group game against Northern Ireland in Southampton. England went on to win that match 5-0 under the guidance of assistant head coach Arjan Veurink with Wiegman forced into self-isolation.

The Football Association have this afternoon provided an official update on Wiegman’s health, confirming that she has tested negative for the virus and is free to resume all of her coaching duties. The UEFA Women’s EURO-winning coach will therefore be present in the dugout this evening as England bid to take another step towards a first European title by beating Spain.

Wiegman revealed in her virtual pre-match press conference yesterday that she has still been working closely with the team despite her illness. The England boss has been participating in some team meetings virtually while she has even attended some training sessions in person in a COVID-safe manner, wearing a mask and keeping a lengthy distance from the group.

The return of Wiegman could not have come at a better time for the Lionesses with this evening’s opponents Spain providing the greatest threat to their European hopes so far.

England’s UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 quarter-final tie against Spain in Brighton kicks-off at 8pm.
