Goalkeeper Hannah Hampton has returned to the England squad after overcoming COVID-19.

The Football Association informed FAWSL Full-Time of the news via a squad update this evening.

Hampton went into self-isolation five days ago after testing positive. The player missed England’s 2-1 extra-time victory over Spain in the UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 quarter-finals in Brighton on Wednesday evening. The Lionesses went into that game with just the two fit goalkeepers, Mary Earps as number one and Ellie Roebuck as her deputy. Hampton’s return means that Sarina Wiegman’s side should be back up to full health in the goalkeeping department for Tuesday’s UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 semi-final against Sweden at Bramall Lane in Sheffield.

England have had their battles with COVID-19 both in pre-camp and during this summer’s tournament. Alex Greenwood and Ellen White both spent time in self-isolation in the lead up to the tournament while Lotte Wubben-Moy and head coach Wiegman tested positive during the EUROs prior to Hampton.

Tuesday’s opponents Sweden have also had issues with the virus. Peter Gerhardsson’s squad has been riddled with Coronavirus over the past 10 days with a number of players having tested positive, although many are now fit and well.

England’s UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 semi-final tie against Sweden kicks-off at 8pm on Tuesday evening.
