England head coach Sarina Wiegman has asked the fans to bring plenty of energy with them again when the Lionesses contest their UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 semi-final against Sweden in Sheffield this evening.

The support for the England team has been superb so far and head coach Wiegman wants that to continue as the Lionesses look to set up a UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 final against either Germany or France on Sunday.

The England boss issued her rallying call in last night’s pre-match press conference, highlighting the role that the fans can play in helping her team.

“By reaching the semi-final, I think we have already brought a lot of inspiration but I think that our fans have brought us a lot of inspiration too,” Wiegman said.

“I hope that they are going to bring us a lot of energy again, we will do that ourselves but they really brought us an extra dimension last time (against Spain). That’s really exciting and we hope that we are going to get that again.”

Going on to discuss tonight’s opponents Sweden, Wiegman said that she is expecting a very different test to what England got against Spain in the quarter-final.

She said “I think it is going to be a very tight game, we know that they have been performing well over the last few years, they’ve always performed well in the women’s game. They are number two in the FIFA Rankings so yes, it is going to be a difficult game.

“It’ll be completely different to what we had against Spain because they have a different style of play but we are prepared.”

The UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 semi-final between England and Spain kicks-off at 8pm.
