Chelsea youngster Emma Thompson has signed a two-year contract with the club and will now join Barclays Women’s Championship side Lewes on a season-long loan to aid her development.
FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from Chelsea this morning.
The 18-year-old forward has come through The Blues’ youth system and she made her senior debut for the club in last season’s FA Women’s Continental League Cup. The player has also been named on the Chelsea bench on a handful of occasions. Thompson is highly-rated by Chelsea and the club have moved to secure the player’s services on a two-year professional deal. The Blues also hold the option to extend the arrangement by a further year.
With Thompson not guaranteed minutes this season, Chelsea have opted to send the player out on loan with Lewes being the beneficiaries.
After signing her new contract at Chelsea, Thompson said “It’s a dream come true to sign my first pro for Chelsea. I’m really excited to get started and I’m also looking forward to continuing my development with Lewes.”
Thompson follows Jess Carter and Maren Mjelde in signing a new contract with The Blues during the close season.
