Southampton have this afternoon announced their intention to stage all of the women’s team’s home fixtures at St Mary’s Stadium this season.

The Saints are set to begin their first season in the elite game after they won promotion to the Barclays Women’s Championship via an FA Women’s National League Championship Play-Off back in May.

Southampton recently suggested that their women’s team would be playing at St Mary’s Stadium more than ever before in 2022/2023 and it has today been confirmed that all fixtures will be staged at the club’s traditional home including domestic cup ties where possible.

During their rise up the women’s footballing pyramid, Southampton have been playing their home matches at AFC Totton’s Snows Stadium. The club could yet return to that venue for occasional matches in the upcoming campaign in the event that St Mary’s Stadium is unavailable due to other events such as men’s team fixtures.

Southampton have long term plans of reaching the promised land of the Barclays Women’s Super League. Manager Marieanne Spacey-Cale has received great financial backing from the club in her time in charge of The Saints and that has continued in this summer’s transfer window. With a strong squad of players and a top class stadium, Southampton’s top flight dream could become reality sooner rather than later.
