Coventry United have completed the signing of young goalkeeper Mia Smith.
The 18-year-old stopper moves to the Butts Park Arena after most recently turning out for former Barclays Women’s Championship club Watford.
Smith joined The Golden Girls last summer and she went on to make three Barclays Women’s Championship appearances for the club. The teenager largely spent the 2021/2022 campaign playing the role of understudy to first-choice Watford goalkeeper Georgie Ferguson.
Smith spent her youth in the highly-rated academies at Reading and Bristol City before the player broke into the latter’s senior squad. The youngster was named on the Bristol City bench on a couple of occasions but never got the opportunity to showcase her talent on the pitch. Smith gave everyone a glimpse of what she can do at latest club Watford and she will now be looking to take the opportunity to represent Coventry United with both hands.
Coventry United were in desperate need of acquiring the services of a new goalkeeper with both Lucy Thomas and Liv Clark having left the club earlier this summer. Smith will certainly provide competition for the Warwickshire club’s goalkeeping jersey while new head coach Lee Burch is likely to add another keeper to his squad before the new season kicks-off.
