The Barclays Women’s Championship’s fixture computer has thrown up a promotion six-pointer on the opening day of the season with London City Lionesses set to face Crystal Palace at Princes Park on Sunday.

The Pride were runners-up to champions Liverpool last season while this weekend’s opponents Crystal Palace have invested heavily in their playing squad over the summer.

London City Lionesses head coach Melissa Phillips could offer debuts to a number of her summer signings against Crystal Palace. Lois Joel, Millie Farrow, Lois Heuchan, Lucy Shepherd and Sarah Ewens are all pushing for starts after joining the club in the close season. Goalkeeper Shae Yanez is expected to retain the number one jersey despite the arrival of former Arsenal goalkeeper Hermoine Cull.

Crystal Palace boss Dean Davenport has made no less than 15 new signings in the summer transfer window. The vast majority of the club’s new additions are set to be involved at Princes Park this weekend. The Eagles are expected to retain their exciting attractive brand of attacking football this season with the likes of Elise Hughes, Rianna Jarrett and Paige Bailey-Gayle set to lead the forward line.

The Barclays Women’s Championship fixture between London City Lionesses and Crystal Palace is scheduled to kick-off at 12.30pm on Sunday afternoon.
