West Ham United defender Grace Garrad has joined FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division club Watford on a dual-registration deal.

The Hammers announced the move earlier today via a post on their official club website. Garrad joined Watford ahead of yesterday’s opening round of FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division matches. She made her debut as The Golden Girls defeated Gillingham Women 3-2 at Grosvenor Vale in Ruislip.

Garrad has joined Watford in a bid to get more regular first team football under her belt. The youngster made just four substitute appearances in all competitions for parent club West Ham United last season while her minutes looked set to be limited going into the new campaign. With the defender out of favour, Garrad spent the second half of last season with second tier side Crystal Palace where she made one further appearance.

The move to Watford provides Garrad with the opportunity to help the Hertfordshire club to mount a push for promotion. The Golden Girls were relegated from the Barclays Women’s Championship on the final day of last season but they have recruited well over the summer and are one of the favourites for the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division title.

Watford continue their season at Bridgwater United on Sunday afternoon.
