Birmingham City defender Harriet Scott says that the club have not set themselves a points target to win promotion back to the Barclays Women’s Super League.

The Blues recorded their first win in the Barclays Women’s Championship as they defeated Sunderland 4-0 at The Stadium of Light this afternoon.

Scott was one of four different goalscorers for the Blues as they got their push for promotion up and running on Wearside. After the match, she revealed that head coach Darren Carter has not set the team a points target this season, the main aim is to remain in the mix for the Barclays Women’s Championship title.

“I don’t think anyone can anticipate what is going to happen week-by-week,” Scott told FAWSL Full-Time. “You can see from the fixtures last week that nobody would have been able to predict those results.

“We haven’t set ourselves a target but obviously, we know that this league is very hard. We are going to see how we can do initially.

“Week-by-week, I don’t think you can predict who is going to win it and even come Christmas, I still don’t think you will be able to say who is going to win it. It is probably going to be the most competitive season that it has ever been so we just want to keep ourselves in the mix for as long as possible and today helped that.”

Scott netted the game’s opening goal with a stunning volley from a corner kick. It was her first goal for the Blues in her four years with the club. The defender revealed that head coach Carter was determined to get her on the scoresheet this season.

She joked “Carts has actually been joining in a bit in training, occasionally hitting the crossbar when he calls it. He’s been really supportive in terms of set pieces and he said to me for the entire pre-season that he was going to get me to score this season.

“I thought it was going to take a little bit longer, the staff have made a few jokes already but second game in and there’s a goal for me.

“It was great for the rest of the girls today, there were four different players on the scoresheet and that’s good because we are not relying on one position, we are getting goals from different places. It was just nice to be involved today and to get the win.”

Birmingham City are back in action after the international break when Crystal Palace are the visitors to St Andrew’s.
