West Ham United defender Lucy Parker says that she is enjoying working under Paul Konchesky and she is looking forward to developing her game further under his guidance this season.

The 23-year-old impressed at times in the West Ham United team last season. She made 14 appearances for the club in the Barclays Women’s Super League in her first year in the English top flight.

Parker says that working under Konchesky in his previous role of assistant manager has helped her to develop her game, particularly given his defensive experience for club and country in a career which spanned for more than two decades. The player is now looking forward to playing under him as the club’s new manager.

“Getting to work under Paul Konchesky this season is going to be a lot of fun,” Parker said when speaking in a West Ham United media session.

“We worked quite closely last season with us both being defenders. At times, I played wing-back so he helped me out a lot there. Paul has helped us all a lot I think, he understands the game from a player’s perspective which has been massive for us.”

Parker went on to express her excitement at the start of the new Barclays Women’s Super League season whilst commenting that she has already had conversations with Konchesky about how she can reach new levels this season.

She said “I couldn’t be more buzzing to be fair, the overriding feeling is just excitement. Everyone can’t wait for the season to start. We just want to build on last season and push as high up the table as we possibly can. We want to get as many points as we can so we’ll see what happens.

“I’ve have definitely had those discussions (with Paul Konchesky) on what it’s going to take for me to push onto the next level and how I can help the team in the best way, we’re both on the same page.”
